Bad Eddie

from £30.00

I'm old enough to remember the bunbeg shipwreck ‘Bad Eddie’ when it was a bit more boat-shaped. I used to climb onto the deck and play pirates with other kids that became our best friends in the world for a day.

Back then I remember calling it “Bad Eddie’s boat,” imaging that Eddie was some kind of smuggler or pirate. In truth, poor Eddie’s character has been unnecessarily vilified since the boat ran ashore in the 1970s, as Bád Eddie is simply Irish for Eddie’s boat.

The tides and the elements have taken their toll on the old boat. The dark lower deck, which I was afraid to descend into as a child, is now open for all the world to see.

It was sad to see how decrepit the old boat has become, but he's still there, making his last defiant stand against the sea.
